Associate Development Consultant – Team Lead

As a Team Lead, you will have the opportunity to contribute to Agri Frontier’s broader goals of empowering agribusinesses and facilitating market growth across Africa. In this role, you will:

  • Lead consulting teams on projects related to value chain development, climate-smart agriculture, and investment readiness.
  • Engage with international organizations, development partners, and government institutions to support sector-wide transformations.
  • Shape the strategic direction of Agri Frontier’s projects by applying your expertise in agribusiness management and market systems development.
  • Your knowledge and leadership will be critical to ensuring the success of our clients, and your role will shape the future of agricultural development in Africa.

Many of our team leads are established leaders who are looking to apply their expertise in agribusiness and market development to create tangible impacts. You may have led consulting projects or worked with international organisations in areas such as climate-smart agriculture, inclusive business models, or market systems development.

Skills & Abilities

  • Proven ability to build authentic relationships with clients, stakeholders, and teams across different regions.
  • Demonstrated skills in managing consulting projects, ensuring on-time delivery within scope and budget.
  • Strong ability to develop business strategies and offer tailored solutions for agribusiness challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high-standard report writing.
  • Experience working with diverse, multicultural teams, fostering effective communication and partnerships.
  • Analytical, intuitive, and able to think critically under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Flexibility to travel across Africa as required by projects.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the agriculture sector, with 5+ years leading consulting projects within SMEs or market systems development.
  • Expertise in areas such as mechanization, climate-smart agriculture, digital innovation, and inclusive business models.
  • Ability to engage high-level stakeholders, including international organisations, government agencies, and private sector partners.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality consulting services to international organisations like AGRA, USAID, and IFC.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, capable of conducting independent research and providing actionable insights.
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams, mentoring junior consultants, and leading cross-functional projects.

Role Deliverables

Team Leadership
• Manage and mentor cross-functional teams, guiding them through project milestones and ensuring high standards of execution.
• Provide strategic direction and technical oversight on agribusiness consulting projects, ensuring alignment with client goals and Agri Frontier’s mission.

Client Management
• Build and nurture relationships with clients across African countries, understanding their agribusiness needs and delivering tailored consulting solutions.
• Oversee client engagements from initiation to completion, ensuring client satisfaction and fostering long-term partnerships.

Project Management
• Lead multiple agribusiness consulting projects across diverse sectors (e.g., mechanization, climate-smart agriculture), ensuring timely delivery, quality, and budget compliance.
• Coordinate project activities across teams and stakeholders, managing risks and delivering high-impact outcomes.

Research and Reporting
• Lead the research efforts in agribusiness sectors, staying updated with market trends and innovative practices.
• Produce comprehensive project reports, feasibility studies, and technical assessments for clients and stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement
• Engage with high-level stakeholders, including government officials, private sector leaders, and donor agencies, to advocate for agribusiness growth.
• Foster relationships across African regions to support agribusiness development and market systems strengthening.
