Infographic: Africa’s crucial contributors to agribusiness

Women produce nearly 80% of households’ food, yet they remain marginalized especially in the high value activities.

Similarly, youth are Africa’s greatest asset; representing a significant proportion of Africa’s population, with many living in rural areas where agriculture is their primary source of income.

Despite their crucial involvement in every stage of the agri-value chain—from planting and harvesting to processing, transportation, and sales—both women and youth face significant barriers that hinder their full participation and potential in the sector.

Some of these challenges include:

  • Limited access to land
  • Limited access to high-quality inputs
  • Limited access to finance
  • Limited access to knowledge on best practices
  • Limited access to information and networks

Addressing these challenges is essential to unlocking the potential of women and youth in Africa’s agribusiness. Providing them with access to resources, training, and financial services can greatly enhance their productivity and contribute to a robust agricultural value chain.
